Sarah & Tim

Sarah and Tim were married at Belmount Hall, Hawkshead, a couple of months back. They came to see me exactly a year before their wedding and they were very clear about what they wanted! Tim is a very keen and accomplished photographer and appreciates the power of black & white photography and how you are drawn in by the content without the distraction of colour. As a photojournalist, it was music to my ears and I had been looking forward to photographing their wedding all year!

The final result is a set of pictures I am really happy with and proud of. It is down to the fact that Sarah and Tim put their faith in me to record their day in the most natural way without contrived images that most people automatically expect. Working in this way means you have to anticipate moments and be ready for them. Coming from a newspaper background, I’ve covered enough news jobs to work this way. Some photographers don’t like it, indeed some frown upon it and discourage couples to opt for the photojournalistic style.

You must observe people, watch for reactions and the relationships between people and look for those split second moments that happen regularly at a wedding. It will be a glance between the bride and the groom, a proud pause and a knowing look from a father to his daughter, a reassuring hand from a parent or one of those belly laughs that hurt some much but add years on to your life!

I’d like to thank Sarah and Tim for allowing me to work in the way I prefer and I just know they are going to love their final album when it returns in about 4 weeks time!
